The Ghana Dental Association (GDA) has taken a bold step toward improving dental healthcare in Ghana by confronting the growing threat of unlicensed and unethical dental practices. Meeting under the theme “Dental Quackery in Ghana: The Silent Epidemic – Awareness, Action, Accountability,” the Association brought together dental professionals, regulatory stakeholders, and civil society to address one of the most overlooked challenges facing the sector today.
Discussions centered on improving professional accountability, strengthening regulatory enforcement, and ensuring the safety of patients seeking dental care across the country. Key voices at the event emphasized the need for ethical practice, increased public awareness, and better collaboration among healthcare providers and regulators.
The event also served as a platform to advocate for improvements in health policy—particularly in how national systems like the NHIS can influence the accessibility and quality of dental care. A new crop of national executives was elected to lead the Association through the next phase of its advocacy and professional development.
